Why Did Apple Discontinue HomePod?

The HomePod was Apple’s high-end Siri-powered smart speaker, which offered a premium audio experience, the ability to control smart home devices, and respond to text messages. However, the HomePod had trouble competing with other, cheaper smart speakers. Apple’s new HomePod Mini product launched in early 2020, but the standard HomePod is no longer available. Apple has confirmed that it will discontinue the HomePod, but has not said why.

It is not clear whether the company decided to discontinue the HomePod because of the lack of sales, but a lack of support or software updates is another possible reason for the decision. The price of the HomePod was too high compared to other smart speakers, such as Google Nest or Sonos. Apple also took years to develop the product, and machine learning capabilities improved the sound quality.

In March of 2021, Apple will no longer produce the original HomePod. Instead, the company will focus on the HomePod mini, which costs $99 instead of $349. This smaller, cheaper model is already outselling the original HomePod, and sales are expected to double in 2021. Sadly, Apple decided to discontinue the original HomePod in favor of the smaller HomePod mini. Despite these negatives, the mini has proven to be popular among customers.
